Hello. Thank you for visiting my website. Presently, I am excepting patients. My favored modalities are EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), hypnotherapy, neurolinguistic programming, somatic therapy, and guided imagery which I weave into the session to achieve your goals. Most of these are considered cognitive behavioral strategies, as opposed to depth oriented psychotherapy (or what is known as Freudian therapy) or strict behavioral therapy (modifying behavior without addressing causation).
For the last 20 years I have worked in various roles ; as a drug and alcohol counselor, as a mental health therapist, and since 2009 as a bilingual licensed psychologist (English - Spanish). As such I have worked with adolescents, families, and all ages of adults. I have worked and still work, with dual diagnosis clients.
Please know that since March 16, 2020 I have been trained in and use telehealth services exclusively.
How do I work? I like setting specific goals, short or mid term, working towards them with you, and reviewing progress periodically. If we are not making progress, if your needs are higher than what i can offer, if your concerns are beyond my areas of expertise, after 13 or 14 sessions, I will refer you to someone else.
Even though I am presently working with folks insured with Medicare who also have a supplemental insurance, and other private medical insurances, I am no longer be accepting assignment for medical insurance. That is, clients will pay me 48 hours ahead of the session, and after the session I will send them a super bill, so that they can recover from their insurance company. Patients will be responsible for payment of $165 per session (I follow the allowable fee by Medicare, which is what most insurance companies accept) .
Overall, folks who seek therapy do so because they want to change patterns of behavior that do not serve them any longer. Or they want to finally work through trauma. Others folks suffer from anxiety, depression, or post traumatic stress disorder. My work consists on taking away the vividness and intensity of memories, at the same time that we work on altering the negative beliefs that people have about themselves or others or the world. That is, we address the personal beliefs of vulnerability, feeling out of control, powerless, ineffective, or inadequate, in order to remove the hold that they may have on you. While you and I cannot change the past, we can change the way you perceive yourself, and the way that you interpret and give meaning to your past and present. During EMDR sessions, most people are able to find more adaptive ways of responding to memories and present situations, new behaviors that produce better outcomes. What we do in the future depends on the now.
I was born in Argentina, and emigrated to the USA in 1987. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist as well as an Approved EMDR Consultant (I offer consultation to other clinicians who are on their way to becoming EMDR certified). I am a Hypnosis Practitioner and have intensive training in neurolinguistic programming. During my many years working for the County of Santa Barbara I trained in treatment modalities that have a record of being effective -evidence based approaches. My consistent goal is to offer the most effective and efficient professional psychological services, in the shortest time, with the best results.
As for the times we have been living through, some of us have lost our forward momentum, finding ourselves disoriented and angry at the disruption in some of the routines of our lives. Some of us have suffered more deeply; financially and personally through human and other losses. More than ever we want to look at the attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that may be keeping us stuck in negative perceptions of ourselves, others, and the world.
Please know that I no longer work with folks that need more than one session a week, or who need phone support. I no longer work with folks that have a history of crisis or hospitalizations.
I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals of overcoming trauma or limiting beliefs about yourself, others, or the world at large.
